Jeffrey Babbin is a partner at Wiggin and Dana, resident in New Haven, in the firm’s Appellate Practice Group within the Litigation Department. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and he previously co-chaired the Connecticut Bar Association’s Appellate Advocacy Section for three years.

Mr. Babbin has handled well over a hundred appeals of trial court and agency decisions before federal and state courts nationally, with particular experience in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Connecticut Supreme Court. His appeals have involved constitutional rights, insurance, securities, medical and other professional malpractice (for defendants), breach of contract, fraud, other business and personal torts, and labor relations. He has been retained by insurers to appeal the largest medical malpractice verdicts in Connecticut, in cases that other law firms defended at trial. He also has an active administrative appeals practice, representing regulated companies in the judicial review of federal and state agency action for client companies in the health care, electric, and telecommunications industries. He has authored both party and amicus briefs in the United States Supreme Court and has assisted in preparing advocates for oral argument before that Court.

Mr. Babbin pursues and defends appeals in cases tried by other law firms in addition to conducting the appeals of matters originally handled at trial by his firm. He also routinely assists trial counsel in his and other law firms on complex legal motions both before, during, and after trial and on tasks for preserving issues for appeal.
