AAAL testifies to the Federal Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules about pending proposals for changes in the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure

On April 1, 2015, Charlie Bird, AAAL President, testified on behalf of the Academy to the Appellate Advisory Committee on the proposal to shorten word limits and apply a 250-word conversion ratio when changing limits for all other filings from pages (or lines) to words. Five members of the committee were present, two were connected by video, two were connected by phone, and one was absent. Also testifying were Cynthia Timms from the State Bar of Texas, David Tennant from the Council of Appellate Lawyers, and James Pew testified for Earthjustice.
